Erykah Badu – Live From VH1 Soul Stage (2008)

11

If I haven't mentioned the following: I have a new job wherein I cannot post as freely as I once did so please afford me some patience in between my post. My emails even suffer - "straight-up!"
I am still here and will always make my presence felt - "that's my word" and a 5 Percenter's "word is bond".

I missed this performance, yet having seen her before I know this joint was smokin'.
I am listening to the concert as I write this entry - the laptop is bucking in tandem with my head bobbing:

1. Intro

2. The Healer
3. On & On
4. ... & On

5. Me

6. Interlude: Train to Philly
7. Otherside of the Game
8. Honey

9. Interlude: Recording vs. Performing

10. Soldier
11. Didn't Cha Know/ A Brighter Day/ If You Believe in Yourself/ Outro

12. Encore: Annie (Don't Wear No Panties)

Erykah Badu on Making it in the Music Business (Video)

Erykah Badu: Real Thing (Music Is Everything) (Prod. by Madlib)
Single (2007)

Download: Sharebee

Erykah profiles the unprincipled preponderant deviations of the music biz:

  • "Do some hoe shit"
  • “Be buttnaked with glitter on you and a beeper”

Music-fans detoxify your desires - you too are much to blame...

The Word of the Day for April 15, 2008 is:

detoxify • \dee-TAHK-suh-fye\ • verb

1 a : to remove a harmful substance (as a poison or toxin) or the effect of such from

b : to render (a harmful substance) harmless

2 : to free (as a drug user or an alcoholic) from an intoxicating or an addictive substance in the body or from dependence on or addiction to such a substance

3 : neutralize

Example Sentence:

Yi wrote her term paper on the city's efforts to detoxify a contaminated landfill.

Did you know?

These days, "detoxify" can mean "to free (someone) from a substance addiction" (and yes, it's the source of "detox," a more recent word that also refers to getting drugs or alcohol out of a person's system). Originally, however, detoxification was something done to things rather than to people. In its earliest uses -- from about 1905 -- "detoxify" referred to the removal of poison, or of poisonous or damaging properties, from a harmful substance, or to the removal of poisonous or toxic substances from something contaminated (such as the bloodstream). The specific application to removing "poison" from an addict is relatively new, dating to the mid-20th century. Today, "detoxify" is also often used generally in reference to counteracting the activity or effect of anything harmful (such as propaganda).

*Indicates the senses illustrated in the example sentence.

Raised by Game

Common: The Game Ft. DJ Premier
From: Finding Forever (July 31, 2007)

While in college I ran with cats from Evanston Illinois; ergo, Windy City’s folklore poses no conundrum. Formerly known as Common Sense Can I Borrow a Dollar? dropped on October 6, 1992. Common’s enigmatic time with the: Soulquarians and Neptunes for two albums worth of women-radio-ready-lollipop foci often goes to the blame of Baduisms yet I do not concretely concur. As of Be, an acronym that feigns no ending, Common has reasserted himself as the talent he walked into the game facilely expositing.
